The Earth has become a precisely measured and recorded object. We experience our existence increasingly through a web of coordinates, hyper-objects and digital facsimiles of the tangible landscape. The experience of our surroundings is increasingly morphing into a “landscape” or worse a “background” upon which we project out lives, but our surroundings are themselves alive, always in a process of making-moving and have an agency not dissimilar to our own. Did we, as a species, forget or forgot the connection to the environment we are living in due to the increasingly hard to understand, complex entanglement showing itself through developments in science, art and philosophy? How do we navigate this time of hyper-objects, entanglement and the dissolution of the “away”. In the months of February and March 2024 these questions took us to the artist-in-residency program of the SIM Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland.
