Vi

Vivien Reichel (she/her) is a Performative and Visual (Science-)Artist, Choreographer and Researcher currently based in Arnhem. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography at the University of Leipzig, where she specialized in Earth System Data Science, she began her studies in Moving Image at ArtEZ AKI Art & Design in Enschede 2024. Vi's praxis fuses scientific fascination with artistic research, utilizing her background in contemporary ice dance and multimedia in an attempt to blur the boundaries between art and (geo)science.

Her work explores themes of long-term natural change and multilayered information, often reflecting on the intersection of rational objectivity and free subjectivity whilst addressing questions of how we, as a species, could navigate ourselves in this time of hyper-objects, entanglement and the dissolution of the “away”.

Within her praxis Vi approaches her artistic research through a transdisciplinary lens creating a personal entrance point from which to experience unknown landscapes, relate to the more-than-human world, and understand ongoing processes within the land and her body.

In the near future, she aims to delve into more personal topics, exploring her background, interests, and identity through her films. By addressing these themes, she seeks to answer questions both for herself and for her audience, whether from a deeply personal perspective or through the stories of other characters and individuals portrayed.
