Vi
Vi Reichel (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist working with film, expanded cinema, new media and performance art and is currently based in the Netherlands. Her work explores themes of long-term natural change, multilayered information and ecological narratives blurring the boundaries between art and (geo)science. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Galeria -m (Poland), SIM Residency (Iceland) and Melting Points (London).
After completing her Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography at the University of Leipzig, where she specialized in Earth System Data Science, she began her studies in Moving Image mixed with Design, Art & Technology Department at ArtEZ University of the Arts.
Within her praxis Vi fuses her scientific fascination with artistic research through a transdisciplinary lens creating a personal entrance point from which to experience unknown land(scape), relate to the more-than-human world, and understand ongoing processes within the land and her body.
Next to her exploration of the visual representation of time and space, she immerses herself in the personal stories of others, draws inspiration from them, documents them and places them back in the context of time and space. It is the little things that fascinate her and which she approaches with care.
