(2025)
Essay | 15 pages
An artistic roller skating performance explored the fluid conceptual boundaries of the body in its interaction with and incorporation of technology into lived and physical space. Using an EMG (Electromyography) interface was used to control the dancer's muscles, triggering new contractions and causing an alienating sensation and involuntary muscle movements. This alternating conversation of electric impuses raises the questions of what it might mean to be in control of your own body. The essay reflects on the conditions of the cyborg, which merges flesh, technology and perception, inviting us to rethink human materiality, agency and the concept of the human self.
